Golf Digest Selects Schreiner’s Prairie Highlands in Top 10 Affordable

Olathe, KS. (December 13, 2002) – Golf Digest has selected Prairie Highlands Golf Course in Olathe, Kansas as one of the top 10 Best New Affordable Public Golf Courses in its America’s Best New Courses 2002 survey.

“It is truly an honor to be recognized as one of the best new golf courses developed in 2002,” said Craig Schreiner. “This list represents some the finest work of some of the top architects practicing today and we are pleased to be in such elite company.”

Schreiner partnered with Todd Clark, his firm’s Senior Architect, and local businessman David Francis nearly six years ago with the intent to develop an affordable, community oriented public golf course in the Kansas City metro area. ”Early on we did a lot of research on positioning the course in the Kansas City market. There were few courses that were affordable and that appealed to a broad golfer profile,” said Clark. “Prairie Highlands was well received from the start and continues to attract a wide range of golfers from throughout Kansas City.”

Prairie Highlands’ name evolved from the land that the golf course is built on – 182 acres of gently rolling land that skirts the prairie. “Native grasses and wildflowers are planted on subtle contours to frame the golf holes,” said Schreiner. “We really made it a high priority to fit every golf hole with the natural movement of the site. This approach saves money during construction, grow –in and day-to-day maintenance.”

“Prairie Highlands is just one of several courses that we’ve recently completed that provides a high quality golf experience at an affordable price,” said Doug Hellman, Schreiner’s Vice-President. The knowledge we’ve gained as equity partners in this project is invaluable and certainly gives us a different perspective that will be of benefit to our clients."
